Gift Ideas silver

Looking for a present that won’t end up forgotten at the back of a cupboard? A silver coin is something people tend to keep, and often something that gets passed down to the next generation. We’ve gathered silver products here that make especially good gifts, whether it’s for a christening, a wedding or a birthday.

Why give silver?

Silver has been a popular gift for special occasions for hundreds of years. Think of the christening spoon, the silver cup or the sugar bowl that always had pride of place at your grandmother’s house. A silver coin plays the same role today, but is much easier to store. The silver itself also holds value. The price goes up and down, but the gift never becomes worthless or goes out of style.

Gifts for different occasions

• Weddings and anniversaries: A silver wedding anniversary marks 25 years of marriage, which makes a silver coin the obvious choice. A coin with a beautiful design also makes a lovely wedding gift for newlyweds.
• Christenings and newborns: A silver coin minted in the child’s birth year makes a thoughtful christening gift that they can keep as they grow up. Many people choose coins from the Lunar series, where each year features its own animal from the Chinese zodiac.
• Birthdays and milestones: A coin from a meaningful year, or with a design that suits the person you’re giving it to, makes the gift more personal.
• For the collector: Special editions, coloured coins and coins with historical or cultural designs are much appreciated by anyone who has already started a collection. Mintages are often limited, so they aren’t always easy to find.

Good to know before you buy

• VAT: Unlike investment gold, silver is subject to VAT in Sweden at 25%. VAT is included in the price you see.
• Storage: We recommend keeping the coin in its original capsule or packaging. Silver tarnishes over time, and fingerprints show on the surface. If you’d like the gift to feel a little extra special when you hand it over, we also offer boxes and cases.
• Purity: Most modern silver coins have a purity of 999/1000. Older coins may have a lower silver content, which affects their value.
