Tavex is proud to present the third set of gold and silver coins from the Australian Lunar Series III. This auspicious collection is inspired by the tradition of the Chinese community in Australia and around the world. Australian Lunar series has a reputation for precise craftsmanship and incredible artistry and the third of the series features the brave and regal Tiger.
2022 is a year of the Tiger, starting from February 1, 2022, and ending on January 31, 2023. It is a Water Tiger year.
According to Chinese mythology, the order of the animals in the ancient lunar calendar was decided with a great race across a river. Traditional storytellers say that despite its fear of water, the Tiger used its strength and was the third to make it to shore. (1)
Legend has it that each animal influences the personality of the people born under its ‘rule.’ Those born in the Year of the Tiger are courageous and active people who love a good challenge and adventure in life. (1)
These expertly crafted gold and silver coins are now available in a limited mintage. (1)
The Tiger ranks third among the animals of the Chinese zodiac. The 12 zodiac animals are, in order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each year is related to an animal sign according to a 12-year-cycle.
In China, the Tiger is viewed as the king of all beasts. The Tiger is a symbol of strength, fearlessness, and bravery in the Chinese zodiac. For good luck, many Chinese children wear tiger-themed caps or shoes.
Some of the famous people born in a Tiger year are
“We knew the Tiger was coming, so you go wild and get your concepts down on paper. When you go down the rabbit hole of all the [lunar] art and all the style, and the history of it, it’s super fascinating.”
– Jennifer McKenna, designer at The Perth Mint
She created sketch after sketch of the mother and cub standing regally together and looking back at her. Drawing their features and eyes, capturing their expression and power, was her favorite part. (1)
