The spot price is the general wholesale market price for pure metal. The price Tavex can pay for a specific bar, coin, piece of jewellery or scrap item also depends on its purity, how easily the product can be resold, and practical costs such as testing, handling or refining. For jewellery and scrap, the amount of pure precious metal in the item is particularly important. You can compare the market price in our gold and silver charts and see Tavex’s current gold buying prices here.
An old coin can be valuable for several reasons: it may contain gold or silver, be rare, be in unusually good condition or be sought after by collectors. Age alone does not automatically make a coin valuable. Tavex mainly values precious metal and investment products, while a rare collector coin may need a specialist valuation by a numismatist. If you think your coin contains precious metal, you are welcome to contact Tavex and we will help you with the next step.
Yes. You can sell eligible gold items at Tavex stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Bring your gold and valid ID. Our staff test and value the items before making an offer. You can see current gold buying prices and estimate your value online and find the store addresses and opening hours here.
An appointment is usually not required for a normal visit during opening hours – you are welcome to walk in. If you are planning a larger purchase, selling a higher-value amount or have a specific question, it can be helpful to contact us in advance so we can prepare the right staff, stock or service. You can contact Tavex or book personal advice here.
Tavex has stores in Sweden: two in Stockholm, one in Gothenburg and one in Malmö. Opening hours, addresses and available services can change, so check the latest information before visiting us. You can see all Tavex stores, addresses and opening hours here.
In some cases. International delivery depends on the country and product, so please contact Tavex before placing the order. We can confirm whether delivery is possible, explain any shipping or insurance costs and tell you whether additional documents or limits apply. If Tavex has local operations in the destination country, you can also find the correct country website via the Tavex Group website.
Brite is a payment service that lets you pay directly from your bank account. At checkout, you select your bank, log in using your usual bank authentication and approve the payment. You do not need to create a separate Brite account or enter card details. If you have questions about payment for your Tavex order, please contact us.
Tavex AB is an established precious-metals dealer with extensive experience in the Swedish market.
We offer transparent purchase prices, professional testing and a clear valuation process, so you can understand how the value of your items has been calculated.
No problem — please contact Tavex and provide your order or invoice number, the payer’s name, the amount and the payment date. If possible, also send proof of payment. This helps us match the transfer to the correct order. Do not make another payment unless Tavex asks you to do so.
If you want to cancel an unpaid order, please contact Tavex as soon as possible. Precious metal prices follow the financial markets, so cancellation rules may differ from a normal online purchase once a price has been confirmed. We can explain what applies to your specific order before you take any further action.
No. The customer, payer and recipient must be the same person, regardless of whether the order is paid by bank transfer or payment card.
If someone else only needs to collect the order from a Tavex store, this may be possible with a valid power of attorney and the required identification.
For PostNord deliveries, the order must be collected by the same person who placed and paid for the order.
If you are unsure which collection option applies to your order, please contact Tavex.
For online gold and silver orders, simply use the payment methods shown at checkout. These may include bank payment and card payment, for example. Tavex stores accept the payment methods available at the relevant location, and payment limits or ID requirements may depend on the transaction. If you are unsure which payment option suits your order, please contact Tavex and we will be happy to help.
We mainly look at the item’s silver content, the net weight of silver and Tavex’s current buying price. A stamp such as 925 can indicate the likely purity, but we can test the item to confirm it. Parts that are not silver are not valued at the silver price. For an accurate assessment, you can bring the item to a Tavex store. Find our stores and opening hours here.
Yes. Tavex buys genuine silver jewellery, silver items and cutlery that meet our purchasing requirements.
Silver-plated items are normally not valued as solid silver because they contain only a thin layer of silver.
If you are unsure whether the item is genuine silver, you can bring it to one of our Tavex stores and we will test and value it for you.
You can find our Tavex stores, addresses and opening hours here.
The value of silver depends mainly on the current silver price, the item’s purity and weight. For example, sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver and is therefore not worth as much per gram as pure silver. For a realistic selling value, the item needs to be assessed using Tavex’s current buying price. Bring your silver item to one of our stores for testing and valuation. Find our stores here.
Our offer is primarily based on the gold or silver content of the item.
Diamonds, gemstones, pearls and other non-metal components are normally not included in the precious-metal value. Our staff can explain how these components affect the valuation before you decide whether to sell.
Once you have accepted the offer, the transaction is completed and your payment is processed securely.
The available payment method may depend on whether you sell your items in-store or use the Tavex Gold Envelope.
No. You can consider the offer before deciding whether you would like to sell.
Our staff will explain how the value was calculated, allowing you to make an informed decision.
An item can still be genuine silver even if it does not have a 925 stamp or hallmark. Colour, weight and a simple magnet test can provide clues, but home tests cannot confirm the silver content with certainty.
The safest option is professional testing. Bring the item to one of our Tavex stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö, and we can test the silver and determine its purity for you.
You can find our Tavex stores, addresses and opening hours here.
No. You do not need to have a large amount of gold.
Tavex offers the same price per gram from the very first gram, whether you are selling a small item or a larger quantity of gold.
We buy several common silver purities, including:
500 silver
800 silver
830 silver
925 sterling silver
999 fine silver
These may include silver jewellery, silver cutlery, coins, bars and other silver items. The purchasing terms may vary depending on the type of item.
Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver and is therefore usually marked 925. The remaining 7.5% is normally another metal that makes the item stronger. A 925 stamp is a good indication, but if you are unsure, Tavex can test the item professionally. Find our Tavex stores and opening hours here
Tavex buys genuine silver cutlery that meets our purchasing requirements. Silver cutlery can only be sold in person at one of our Tavex stores and cannot be sent by post.
Bring your silver cutlery to us and we will test the purity, weigh it and provide a valuation. The value depends mainly on the silver content and weight rather than the age of the item or what it originally cost.
You can contact Tavex before your visit if you have any questions.
Yes, investment silver in the form of coins and bars can be sent to Tavex using the Tavex Gold Envelope.
Silver jewellery, silver cutlery, silver items and other scrap or non-investment silver, however, cannot be sent by post. These items must be brought to one of our Tavex stores for testing and valuation.
You can learn more about selling gold and silver to Tavex or contact Tavex if you are unsure which option applies to your silver.
Yes. Broken, worn or damaged gold jewellery can still have gold value. A broken clasp, a missing stone or wear does not remove the gold in the item. The price depends mainly on the gold purity and net weight of gold, and parts that are not gold may be deducted. You can value your gold online and see current buying prices before bringing it to us.
Yes. Gold valuation at Tavex is free and you are under no obligation to sell after we have valued your items.
You can also see our current buying prices and value your gold online before you visit us.
If you would like more guidance before selling, you are also welcome to contact Tavex for personal advice.
Payment is normally made within 1–3 banking days after you have accepted Tavex’s offer and provided the necessary payment details.
If you sell your gold in a Tavex store, we first test and value the gold and present an offer. If you use the Tavex Gold Envelope, we contact you with an offer after the gold has been received and valued.
You can value your gold online and see our current buying prices before you sell.
Yes. White gold, rose gold and red gold are real gold mixed with other metals to change the colour and strength. When you sell it for its gold value, the gold purity and net weight are more important than the colour. Tavex can test and value these items in the same way as yellow-gold jewellery. You can see our current gold buying prices and value your items online.
Yes. Gold can still have value even if it has no visible stamp or hallmark. Older jewellery, worn items and items from other countries may have missing or unclear markings. Tavex can test the item, estimate the purity and make an offer based on the actual gold content. You can value your gold online or find a Tavex store for professional testing.
Look for a small fineness stamp or hallmark on the item. Common markings are 375 for 9K, 585 for 14K, 750 for 18K and 875 for 21K. Older or heavily worn jewellery may have a faint or missing stamp, so the marking alone is not always sufficient. If you are unsure, Tavex can test the item for you. You can see current buying prices and value your gold online before you visit us.
18K gold contains 75% pure gold and is usually marked 750. The value per gram changes with the gold market and Tavex’s current buying price, so the amount you can receive varies over time. You can see Tavex’s current buying price for 18K/750 and calculate an estimated value here.
When selling gold, compare the actual price you receive per gram for your gold purity – not just claims that someone offers the “best gold price”.
At Tavex, we consistently offer competitive and transparent buying prices with no hidden fees. Your gold is professionally tested and valued based on purity and weight, and payment is normally made within 1–3 banking days after the sale has been completed.
You can see our current buying prices and value your gold online before you visit us.
Bring your precious metal items and valid ID to a Tavex store. We test and weigh the metal, calculate an offer based on our current buying prices and explain the result to you. If you accept the offer, we complete the purchase and arrange payment. If you do not want to sell, you can simply decline before the transaction is completed. You can see our current gold buying prices online and find your nearest Tavex store here.
Usually not. Gold-plated and silver-plated items only have a very thin layer of precious metal on the outside, which normally contains too little gold or silver for our standard purchasing service. If you are unsure whether an item is solid precious metal or plated, you can bring it to a Tavex store and we will help you check it. Find our stores and contact details here.
We mainly look at three things: the item’s purity, the net weight of precious metal and Tavex’s current buying price. We test and weigh the item before making an offer so you know what the valuation is based on. The original retail price, design or sentimental value normally does not increase the scrap value. You can see current gold buying prices and value your gold online before you visit us.
Yes. You can send eligible gold jewellery, gold coins and gold bars using the Tavex Gold Envelope. Follow the instructions in the envelope, seal the gold in the security bag and hand the trackable and insured shipment in at the specified PostNord service point instead of using ordinary mail. Keep the receipt until the process is complete. Once we receive your gold, we test and value it and then contact you with an offer. Learn more or order the Tavex Gold Envelope here.
Tavex buys many common gold purities, including 9K/375, 14K/585, 18K/750 and 21K/875, as well as other recognised finenesses.
If you cannot find a stamp or are unsure about the purity, that is not a problem – Tavex can test the item for you. A missing or unclear stamp does not automatically mean that the item has no gold value.
You can also value your gold online and see our current buying prices before you visit us.
You can sell many genuine gold and silver items to Tavex, including jewellery, certain coins and bars, and other precious metal items that meet our purchasing requirements. The value depends mainly on the metal, purity and net weight of precious metal. You can value your gold online and see current buying prices or contact Tavex if you are unsure what you have.
There is no single maximum amount of investment gold you are allowed to travel with, but declaration rules may apply. From 1 April 2026, people entering or leaving Sweden must declare cash and certain similar assets worth EUR 10,000 or more, and some forms of investment gold may be included. Always check the current rules with Swedish Customs and in every country you are travelling to or through before your trip. If you have a question about a Tavex product before travelling, you are welcome to contact us.
Start by comparing the product’s weight, dimensions, purity marking, manufacturer and packaging with the official product specifications. A magnet can help detect some obvious counterfeits, but it cannot confirm authenticity on its own. The safest approach is to buy from a trusted precious metals dealer and have suspicious products professionally tested. You can see Tavex investment gold or contact us if you would like help assessing an item.
Pure gold and pure silver are not magnetic. If an item is clearly attracted to a magnet, it may be a warning sign, but passing a magnet test does not prove that the item is genuine because many other metals are also non-magnetic. Professional testing can also check weight, size, markings, density or conductivity. If you would like us to check an item you are considering selling, contact Tavex or visit one of our stores.
A troy ounce is the standard unit of weight used internationally for gold, silver and other precious metals. One troy ounce is exactly 31.1034768 grams. It is different from the standard ounce used for certain other goods. Precious metal market prices are often quoted per troy ounce, and you can see them in our gold and silver price charts.
: The gold price moves for many reasons, including supply and demand, interest rates, inflation, central bank purchases, the US dollar, geopolitical uncertainty and investor demand. For customers in Sweden, the SEK exchange rate also matters because gold is usually priced internationally in US dollars. You can follow current movements in our gold price charts and read Tavex’s analysis of the factors currently affecting the gold price.
Gold can be part of a diversified investment portfolio. It is a physical asset that has long been used as a store of value, but its price can both rise and fall, and gold does not pay interest or dividends. Whether gold is suitable for you depends on your goals, time horizon and risk tolerance, and Tavex cannot guarantee future returns. If you want to see how gold has performed over time, you can compare today’s price with previous years in our historical gold price chart. You are also welcome to contact us for personal advice at +46 8 678 20 30.
: Investment gold is high-purity gold that is primarily bought as a physical store of value or investment rather than as jewellery. Gold bars and certain gold coins that meet the legal requirements can be sold without VAT in Sweden. Product pages show the weight, purity and manufacturer or mint so you can easily compare the options. See our range of investment gold for current products and prices.
You can buy physical investment gold from Tavex online or at any of our Swedish stores. When comparing gold bars, you can look at weight, purity, manufacturer, purchase price and buy-back price, as well as how you want the gold delivered or collected. You can see Tavex gold bars online or find your nearest Tavex store.
There is no single gold bar size that is best for everyone. Larger bars often have a lower premium per gram, while smaller bars provide more flexibility because you can sell them one at a time later. A good starting point is to choose a well-known bar in a size that suits your budget and plans. See our gold bars or contact us for personal advice at +46 8 678 20 30 if you would like help choosing.
Gold bars come in many sizes, from small 1 gram bars to larger bars such as 100 g, 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg. Availability can change over time. When choosing a size, it can be useful to compare the price per gram, purity, manufacturer and Tavex buy-back price. You can see which gold bar sizes are available from Tavex here.
The price of a gold bar depends mainly on its weight, the current gold price and the product premium. Larger bars often have a lower markup per gram because manufacturing and handling costs are spread over more gold. Tavex updates product prices as the market moves, so you can always see our current gold bar prices here.
Gold is traded internationally and the market price is usually quoted per troy ounce. One troy ounce is approximately 31.1035 grams. For customers in Sweden, the price per gram in SEK is also affected by the SEK exchange rate. The final price of a specific product depends on weight, purity and product premium. You can follow the current market price in our gold price charts and see current product prices in our range of gold bars.
No. Gold and silver orders that are shipped must be paid for before dispatch. Precious metal prices can change quickly and the shipments are high-value, so Tavex does not offer cash on delivery for these orders. The payment options available for your order are shown at checkout. If you have questions before ordering, please contact Tavex.
Not through the online store at the moment. “Arrival unknown” means that we do not yet have a confirmed date for when the product will be back in stock. You are welcome to contact Tavex and we will share the information available or help you find a similar product that is available now. You can also see our current gold and silver products.
Normally, you can order products that are in stock or have confirmed availability. This helps us ensure that the precious metal you order is actually available for delivery. For larger quantities or a specific product request, please contact Tavex and we can check the options for you. You can also see products currently available in our gold and silver ranges.

Tavex buys large volumes and works directly with well-known mints, refineries and suppliers. This reduces the need for intermediaries and helps us maintain competitive prices for customers. Tavex is also part of an international precious metals group operating in Europe. You can read more about Tavex Group or see our current gold and silver products.
Yes. Many Tavex products have a lower unit price when you buy larger quantities, and available volume discounts are shown directly on each product page. You can compare prices in our gold range and silver range. For a particularly large order, you can contact Tavex and we will be happy to check whether a special price is possible.
The spot price is the current market price of gold or silver. Tavex’s buying price is what we pay when we buy a product from you, while the selling price is what you pay when you buy from us. The difference between the prices is called the spread. The premium is the amount above the metal value that covers costs such as manufacturing, transport and delivery. You can follow current market prices in our gold and silver price charts.
Investment gold that meets the legal requirements is sold without VAT in Sweden. An important exception is gold bars and gold plates weighing 1 gram or less, which are subject to 25% VAT.
Investment silver in the form of coins and bars is also subject to 25% VAT in Sweden.

The spot is the current market-clearing price of gold or silver that is set by factors of supply and demand in the global financial markets. The spot price refers to 1 troy ounce of .999 fine gold or silver.
The bid (or buy as a layman’s term) is the price at which market participants, such as Tavex, are ready to buy gold or silver at any given time.
The ask (or sell as a layman’s term) is the price at which market participants, such as Tavex, are ready to sell gold or silver at any given time.
The spread is the difference between the ask and the bid price. For example, if the bid for a 1 ounce Gold Philharmonic is €1000 and the ask price is €1040 then the “bid-ask spread” is €40. A low bid-ask spread is often a good indicator of high liquidity. Products with high liquidity, such as the Gold Philharmonic coin, will have a lower bid-ask spread compared to other less well-known gold coins, which means that you, as an investor, will save money when trading in and out of your investment.
Every product that Tavex sells comes with a premium. A premium is added to cover the cost of the fabrication and distribution of the item. The premium is calculated by taking the price of a product minus the spot price of the metal. For example, if the current spot price of gold is €1020, and if Tavex sells a 1 ounce Gold Philharmonic for €1070 then the premium is €50.
Although the weight of gold and silver is sometimes quoted in kilograms or grams, the official weight measurement to gauge the mass of precious metals is the troy ounce. One troy ounce (oz) equals 31.1034768 grams. Note that a troy ounce is not the same as an avoirdupois ounce (more commonly known as the kitchen ounce) which equals approximately 28.34 grams.
The purity of gold and silver is measured in millesimal fineness, which denotes the purity of the metal in parts per thousand. For example, the PAMP 100 gram gold bar contains a gold fineness of 999.9, which means that the bar is 99.99% pure gold. Another example, the $20 Double Eagle with a gross weight of 33.43624 grams contains a gold fineness of 900, which denotes a gold purity of 90% or 33.43 x 0.9 = 30.092 grams of pure gold.
In addition to fineness, the traditional purity measurement of gold is the karat (K). The highest karat rating is 24 and this equals or is greater than 99.9% pure gold. Gold jewellery in Europe most often contains a gold purity of 14 and 18 karats, which equals 14/24 = 58.3% and 18/24 = 75% pure gold respectively.
