Perth Mint has created the world’s largest gold bar. It weighs 521.2 kilograms and consists of gold with a purity of 99.999 percent.
The Australian mint and gold producer Perth Mint has entered the Guinness World Records after producing the world’s largest gold bar.
The enormous bar weighs 521.2 kilograms and is made from Australian gold refined to an impressive purity of 99.999 percent. This is higher than the 99.99 percent purity that is standard for investment gold.
The record surpasses the previous largest gold bar, weighing around 300 kilograms, which was produced in Dubai two years earlier. The new bar is therefore more than 200 kilograms heavier.
We have previously written about the world’s largest gold bar, which at the time was a 250-kilogram bar produced by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in Japan in 2005.
Since then, the record has changed hands twice. First, the approximately 300-kilogram gold bar in Dubai took over the title, and now Perth Mint has broken the record once again with its 521.2-kilogram bar.
This shows how quickly even a seemingly unbeatable gold record can become history. Here you can read our previous article about the Japanese record-breaking bar.
The project took around one year from the initial idea to the completed gold bar. The record attempt itself was overseen by representatives from Guinness World Records, and the production process took up to three days.
With today’s high gold price, it is not just the bar’s size that is impressive.
According to Perth Mint CEO Paul Graham, the value of the gold in the bar exceeds 100 million Australian dollars. As it is a unique record-breaking item, its actual value could be even higher.
The bar has been nicknamed the “People’s Bar” and will be put on display at Perth Mint in the future alongside another of the company’s spectacular records – the world’s largest one-tonne gold coin.
The record-breaking bar was not created solely to set a world record. Perth Mint also wants to showcase the capabilities of Australia’s gold industry in refining and manufacturing.
Australia’s gold export revenues are expected to reach around 60 billion Australian dollars during the 2025/2026 financial year, up from 47 billion dollars the previous year. This would make gold one of the country’s most important export commodities.
For most investors, physical gold naturally comes in much smaller formats than 521 kilograms. At Tavex, you can find gold bars and gold coins in a variety of sizes, both for those looking to start investing in gold and for those who already own physical gold as part of their long-term savings.
