What type of silver does Tavex buy?

Tavex buys genuine silver with a clear silver purity. The most common purities we buy are:

• SS925

• SS830

• SS800

• SS500

SS925 is often called sterling silver and contains 92.5 percent silver. SS830 is common in older Swedish silver cutlery and other silver items. This means the item contains 83 percent silver. SS800 and SS500 also occur, especially in some older or imported silver items.

When you sell silver at Tavex, the silver purity and weight determine the value. The higher the silver purity and the more the item weighs, the higher the silver value of the product.

Genuine silver or nickel silver – what is the difference?

A common question is whether nickel silver can also be sold as silver. The answer is no, Tavex does not buy nickel silver.

Genuine silver contains silver and is usually stamped with a silver purity, such as 925, 830, 800 or 500. Nickel silver, on the other hand, is usually an alloy of other metals, such as copper, zinc and nickel, and may sometimes be plated with a thin layer of silver. Despite the name, nickel silver does not normally have the same actual silver value as genuine silver.

This means that two items can look quite similar but have completely different values. A piece of genuine silver cutlery may have a clear metal value, while a piece of nickel silver cutlery mainly has practical or collectible value, but not the same silver value.

How is the price per gram set?

When you sell silver to Tavex, the price is based on the silver purity, weight and current silver price. An item in SS925 contains more silver than an item in SS830, which means the price per gram also differs depending on purity.

The important thing is that the valuation is clear. You will know what silver purity the item has, how much it weighs and what price we can offer.

The same price per gram applies from the very first gram. This means you do not need to bring in a large amount of silver in order to sell to Tavex.
